Motivation for automation

The customer produces components for the Škoda Auto emblem on injection moulding machines. As part of the assembly process, the parts need to be secured by gluing the pressed locks. The manual application of the adhesive requires non-ergonomic work (manual pushing of cartridges) and high costs for the input material of the adhesive (cartridges). A critical requirement is to dispense precise doses of adhesive to avoid overflow of adhesive residues over the tape after the emblem has been re-glued. For this reason, it was decided to go for full automation.

Project description.

The subject of the implementation was the development and supply of equipment for the application of two-component adhesive on the car emblem. The device was conceived as a single-purpose semi-automatic machine for a family of parts of Škoda emblems of the carousel type in combination with a handling robot that dispenses the adhesive.

Process description:

The parts are inserted by the worker into the embedding dies in the carousel.
The robot automatically dispenses the adhesive to defined points
Camera control evaluates the presence of glue at all defined points
The parts are sorted into OK/NOK
The operator removes the finished OK piece and places the next part for glue application
The machine collects data and communicates with the parent ERP system
