Motivation for automation

The customer produces a wide range of electric motors. An integral part of production is the bonding of magnets to the rotor. The work is repetitive, non-ergonomic and demanding in terms of time standards, but also in terms of the need to use respiratory protection. Automation addresses both production speed, quality and multi-shift capabilities.

Project description.

The subject of the implementation was the development and delivery of equipment for automatic bonding of magnets to motor rotors. The device is designed as a robotic workplace with two robots. One robot picks up the magnets in the centering device and the other 6 axis robot applies the magnets to the rotor.

Process description:

The rotor, not fitted with magnets, is based by an arc into an adjustable rotation mechanism
Input material magnets are loaded into a tray in a non-oriented manner on a 2D surface
A camera-guided scara robot picks up the magnets into a centering station
Centered magnets are picked up by a 6-axis robot to the position of camera control and automatic adhesive dispensing
Robot applies magnets to rotor
Magnets are pressed with a defined force by external pressure
The device collects data and communicates with the parent ERP system
