Motivation for automation

A customer manufactures a safety feature that holds electrical equipment at a height above a stage where people are present. To ensure safety, the element needs to be checked against human factors failure of assembly. Due to the lack of workers in the market, despite the small batch production process, it was decided to automate the production thanks to the possibility of using the HXG platform. 

Project description.

The subject of the implementation was the development and supply of equipment for the assembly of the safety element on the light holders with 100% output control, packaging and palletisation.

In terms of customer requirements, the equipment was designed on the HXG platform - a reconfigurable robotic platform in configuration: 

  • HXG Core - Fanuc (centre) with dedicated gripper
  • Module 1 - assembly station 
  • Module 2 - lock feeding with orientation and adhesive dispensing
  • Module 3 - nut feeding with assembly 
  • Module 4 - pin feeding 
  • Module 5 - pallet module with bodies 
  • Module 6 - inspection module with follow-up packaging and palletising 

Process description:

  1. The feeding modules are used for the orientation and pre-assembly of the sub-assemblies
  2. The robot removes a pair of spring washer subassemblies into the gripper and places them on a pair of locks
  3. It embeds the subassemblies into the bed where the adhesive is applied 
  4. The subassemblies, body and pins are founded in the pressing station
  5. The operation of pressing the pins into the assembly takes place
  6. The assembled assembly is cleaned of adhesive residue and moved to the test station
  7. The test station is checked both visually and mechanically
  8. The final product is packed in a plastic bag and palletized into shipping boxes
  9. The equipment collects data and communicates with the parent ERP system
