Motivation for automation

The Minicooper and BMW emblems are manufactured to a very precise tolerance using a two-part bonding method. This operation is not feasible in the required precision and stability of the process by human power. The machine is designed in the form of a carousel with the possibility of changing the embedding dies and hooves to enable the production of a diverse family of MINI and BMW emblems.

Project description.

The subject of the implementation was the development and delivery of equipment for automatic gluing and assembly of BMW and MINI cooper signs.

Process description:

Station (1): The operator places the input material plastic carrier part and the sheet metal emblem into the dies.
Station (2): The steam developer dewaxes the carrier part.
Station (3): The camera measures the position of the sheet metal sign and defines its angular rotation (+-1°) with respect to the reference
Station (4): Application of hot melt adhesive to the carrier
Station (5): The rotary manipulator grasps the sheet metal sign and places it, correctly oriented, on the carrier with the adhesive
Station (6): Hoof pressure
Station (7): Camera inspection of the final product
Station (8): The manipulator takes the final product and places it on the outfeed conveyor in the case of OK and in the case of NOK into the chute for NOK pieces.
